I have worked as consulting CTO for 2 US based startups who are multimillion dollar businesses now, while travelling to and fro between continents setting up and managing teams of Rockstar engineers and designers. From Idea to Technical Blue print and from execution to delivery + team management everything has been precise and gave my best and both were referrals opportunities.
Yet it is quite a challenge to showcase the work and continue on the model to find people Interested in this and help startups grow or find a suitable monetisation deal for myself.
Am i to say something different / approach people in a different way and how to find and connect with people interested in such a model ?

Titles can be confusing. To some, a CTO is manager of people; to others, a CTO is more technology oriented.
That said, my long-established consulting practice has assisted clients with deep technical issues for many years. Deep knowledge is often the difference between positive approaches and approaches which lead to disabling technical debt.
For many firms, particularly startups, a full time asset with deep knowledge is an un-affordable luxury. A relationship which gain access to knowledge and expertise without the economics of a full time commitment is priceless. This is different from hiring a consultant for a particular issue. Often, such consulting engagements have limited scope and duration. An ongoing relationship permits small problems to be addressed before they grow and become major impediments. Software and hardware are both particularly vulnerable to small missteps; even a small error in one line of code can impose a crippling limit on an implementation.
Thus, a virtual CTO is a very valuable resource, both for their depth and ongoing involvement.

I have been doing this for some 4 years now, on and off for large and small companies alike. As Robert said, there are the managers and the techies in the CTO world. I am far more about the etch side than managing anyone.
The work of a technologist in a startup mode organization is about keeping focus, growing the team with good tech folks, and keeping the tech from not going all over the the place while still allowing for freedom and innovation. Far too many times, in the early days corners are cut for the god of TTM, while that is true sometimes, it is not most of the time, and keeping that balance is of utmost import.
Beyond that, being there to help, guide, and most importantly support the etam when walls are hit and things go bad, is also a large part of the job, with mentoring done all along.
